   Mooney IP is a group of of standout patent practitioner agents and attorneys with backgrounds as patent examiners, software/computer/product engineers, and having patented innovations for top portfolios at some of the top patent law firms in the U.S.  We are the world's first Agile™ Patent Firm and are licensed to practice before the U.S.P.T.O.  We focus putting our skills, experience, and energy toward our Mission of providing Clients with more Patent Quality, Innovation, and Business Value.  

    Under the supervision of our managing member, we prepare and prosecute patents before the USPTO.  We continuously improve our systems for quality and efficiency while maintaining military-grade I.T. security.  We automate quality checks, get work done in a timely manner, and provide a good customer experience.  

    Our team also includes individuals who do not show up on this page, including veteran patent Artists and other former Examiner practitioners and technical and legal experts across subfields.  Our operations help Clients benefit from industry-leading quality and service without the inefficient overhead of traditional law firms. 

Pierce A. Mooney:  Managing Practitioner, PMI-ACP

   My career in IP began at a tech startup developing software, hardware, and other IP for clients and in house.  I then served as a patent examiner at the USPTO.  After passing the patent bar, I cut my teeth doing patent preparation and prosecution for one of the most profitable patent portfolios, globally.

   Patent Law Teacher, Patent Agent, and Former USPTO Examiner

    Working as a patent examiner at the USPTO, Pierce completed all courses in the examiners’ Patent Training Academy.  His Supervisory Patent Examiner was the Patent Eligibility point of contact for all of TC 2600 (approx. 1,000 examiners), and taught him how to intimately navigate patent eligibility law.  He examined speech and language processing applications, which are the foundations to most A.I. patents.  After passing the patent bar exam, Pierce resumed his career in private practice as a registered practitioner.  He gained experience obtaining patents that get litigated in one of the world’s most profitable patent portfolios.  Pierce leverages techniques gathered from comprehensive training programs and other industry leaders to obtain top quality patents.

   Product Developer and Founder

Prior to the USPTO, Pierce built deep technical and business knowledge as a product developer.  Over seven years ago, Pierce founded Parseval, LLC, which is now DBA: Mooney IP.  He handled over 50 engineering research and development projects, developing a wide range of software and hardware products and skillsets For example, he developed machine learning, electronic, and firmware solutions for healthcare and defense customersIn house, his team developed products and IP around internet of things and noise control systems.  With this experience, he became a PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner.  Today, he runs Mooney IP as an agile patent agency, leveraging software to help secure patent quality and value.

   Early Career and Education

    Pierce's career started as an electronics and systems designer in wireless satellite and security systemsPierce holds a BSEE from the University of Central Florida, where he attended the honors college and took graduate courses in machine learning and RF communications.  While in grad school, he helped faculty win and complete research grants related to wireless networks, entrepreneurship, and medical informatics.

   Technical Specialties

    Pierce focuses on patenting technologies relating to AI/ML, software, information and communications, electronics and semiconductors, renewable energy, mechanical and medical devices, and electroacoustics.  He has extensive experience engineering technologies in each of these domains.  He is also able to help inventors optimize the value of their patent protection with strategies including litigation damages data and market fit research, though he is not able to consult on Article III federal courts or give legal advice.  Pierce uses his unique capabilities to increase the value of, and de-risk, clients' innovations.

   Free Time

In his free time, Pierce enjoys inventing, hiking, biking, coding and IT, and online education.  Pierce has been active in IEEE for over ten years.  He speaks to groups of inventors, lawyers, and patent practitioners.  He serves on the NAPP case law review team, summarizing impacts of new CAFC and Supreme Court decisions on the patent practitioner community's preparation and prosecution practices.

Nidah M. Hussain: Associate Technical Specialist/Law Clerk

    Nidah is a biomedical engineer and patent professional with a dozen years of industry experience focusing on medical instruments, implant design, and biomaterials. She holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of South Carolina.

Former USPTO Patent Examiner Specializing in Mechanical and Medical Device Patents

   Nidah brings over six years of experience from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where she served as a Patent Examiner focusing on medical and surgical patents. In this role, she examined U.S. and international utility patent applications for patentable subject matter according to USPTO MPEP standards. Nidah leveraged her expertise to bridge gaps in understanding between attorneys and applicants, advising on the patentability of complex inventive devices while translating medical schematics and legal language to determine the permissibility of claim scopes. Prior to examining, she also worked as a USPTO Patent Classifier, parsing complex interdisciplinary documents to apply appropriate CPC and USPC tags.

Biomedical Engineering Researcher & Medical Implant Designer

   Before her tenure at the USPTO, Nidah developed a profound understanding of medical and engineering principles through extensive research and device innovation. For her Master's thesis, she designed a tracheobronchial stent, which involved selecting biomaterials, testing mechanical properties, and fabricating prototypes using 3D printing technologies. She also served as a Project Leader for the research and development of a biodegradable, polymer-based drug delivery hydrogel for surgical prophylaxis, refining her skills in experimental design, spectroscopy, and clinical lab equipment.

Technical Specialties

   Nidah specializes in patents involving medical and surgical equipment, biomechanical implants, and biomaterials. She possesses deep technical proficiency in biological 3D modeling software like AMIRA, CAD/CAM design for patient-specific implants, and 3D printing technologies. Additionally, her expertise spans biomechanics, hemodynamics, bioinformatics, and basic electrical engineering as applied to biomedical circuits and systems.

Free Time

In her free time, Nidah enjoys relaxing with her husband, working out at the gym, and doing continuous education.

Deepika S. Pagala: Associate Technical Specialist

    Deepika holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Artificial Intelligence from UT Arlington with graduate work toward an second AI-focused masters.  She is a technical specialist with over a decade of practical experience on top of her elite academic foundation. For some of the world's largest companies, she worked in scientific computing, machine learning, and data compression and as a Technical Specialist procuring patents.  She also holds an MBA which helps her position clients' inventions in a way that optimizes for both their business and technology positioning. She consistently led her University degree programs in GPA.

   Technical Expert focusing in EE and Software-related Patents

    Deepika combines elite technical expertise in Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence with a sharp strategic focus on patent prosecution and monetization. Holding a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Strategic Management, she specializes in translating highly complex technologies—including Machine Learning, Cryptography, and Video Compression—into robust intellectual property assets. With proven experience managing all phases of patent prosecution, drafting Office Action responses, and conducting Examiner interviews, she ensures our clients' innovations are rigorously protected. An innovator herself, Deepika is a named Co-Inventor on an international PCT patent application.

Dr. Brandy Gamblin:  

Associate Patent Practitioner

   Dr. Brandy Gamblin is a standout patent practitioner.  She is a former Fulbright Scholar with nearly 20 years' experience teaching complex electrical engineering, physics, chemical, and legal concepts to people of various backgrounds.  This helps her translate materials, consumer electronics, solar/renewable energy systems, chemical, and healthcare innovations into granted patent applications.  She teaches Patent Bar Prep and authored "Chapter 2100 Simplified" about the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure.

   Dr. Brandy Gamblin is not just a highly accomplished academic with a Ph.D. in Analytical/Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics and an international Fulbright scholarship in Nuclear Physics; she is a combination of scientific and legal knowledge. Her specialty in Chemistry extends to a broad range of applications, including inventions related to chemistry, including carbohydrate chemistry, electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry & synthesis, plastics and polymers, small molecule pharmaceuticals; materials science; mechanical devices; medical devices; medical treatment; remote sensing; and scientific instruments.

   Additionally, she has experience with computer modeling, cryogenic equipment, genetics, genomics, geosciences, liquid crystals, mining and power plant operations, particulates and particulate emissions, radioactive sources, semiconductors, spectral analysis, and superconductors.
